Joomla! 1.5 Components
It is not vital you know about components in the early stages of using your Wynchcote website built on the Joomla! platform.
You will discover over time however that components, along with plugins and modules, will help you turn your website into an even more powerful marketing tool, whether for business or personal use.
Some knowledge and understanding of components will not be a waste of your precious time.
Note:
Components, Plugins and Modules are collectively known as Extensions.
What is the difference between a standard component and a third party component?
Joomla! websites come equipped with standard components. These are pre-installed.
You can add other components yourself. These are third party components.
The JCE Content Editor is a good example of a third party component.

Banners Component
This component enables you to manage banners by clients and in conjunction with any number of banner modules.
Banner modules can be displayed anywhere in your website.
Contacts Component
This component enables you to manage any number of contact points within your organisation.
You may for example want to have different contact details for different members of your team.

Third party components must be used cautiously.
There are some excellent well-renowned and well-supported components available for use with Joomla!, for example the JCE Content Editor.
Pre-installation Procedure
There are a number of things you should do before installing a new extensions:
- Perform a FULL Backup of your website - more about Backing Up your Website.
- Check the Joomla! Extension Directory for recommendations / comparison / other user feedback.
- Check the component you plan to use is not on the Joomla! Vulnerable Extensions List.
