How much disk space does Joomla! need?

Dynamic websites like Joomla! websites are bigger than traditional static websites and need more resources.

A Joomla! 2.5 installation + the JCE Content Editor (as of January 2012) uses approximately 40 Megabytes (MB) of disk space immediately after we install your website and before you begin adding your own content (text and images).

How much disk space do you need?

As you add more and more content and you install further Joomla! extensions, the size of your website and the amount of disk space you need will grow.

Text content does not use up much database space.

Other media such as images, and especially audio and video files will however use up more hard drive space.

Use multimedia without increasing disk space!

If you wish to avoid upgrading to a higher spec hosting plan but want to use lots of multimedia content, we suggest you explore hosting multimedia on YouTube.

There are some excellent Joomla! extensions that will enable you to present YouTube-hosted multimedia content within your website.
