Learning Outcomes

Participants will:

1) know how a dynamic website differs from a static website;

2) recognize the main features of a dynamic website like Joomla!;

3) identify the benefits of the Joomla! Content Management System for administrators and visitors;

4) identify what the different levels of Joomla! User can do;

5) understand how data is organized within the Joomla! CMS (content management system);

6) be able to organize data in Sections, Categories and Articles;

7) be able to insert menu items and link them to content;

8) be able to upload and add word and image content to the Joomla!;

9) be able to manipulate images - create rollovers and hyperlinks;

10) be able to publish and unpublish content;

11) be able to create Users with different levels of permissions e.g. Registered Users, Authors and Publishers.  

And if progress allows:

12) be able to insert multimedia content;

13) be able to upload and link to other kinds of documents including PDF files.

Aim

Be able to administer and manage the content of a web magazine using Joomla! 1.5.

Structure

The day is a Webmag Workshop but set within a celebratory framework. Prizes will be awarded throughout the day to students in recognition of their contribution. Every student will leave the workshop with a higher self regard and 'charged' with energy to contribute even further to the school/college community to which they belong!
